The excitement for the London 2012 Olympics is growing day by day and the chance for the six British hopefuls to prove themselves against the rest. A six player squad has been named for team GB, with Paul Drinkhall and Joanna Parker in the singles event. Drinkhall has now dominated British domestic table tennis for the past six years and is Britain’s hopeful for a medal in the Men’s singles. Joanna Parker

Parker is a very naturally gifted table tennis player, she has like Drinkhall been very strong in domestic table tennis and is the highest ranked British player. She has won all national titles impressively at senior and junior level. On the world stage she claimed a bronze medal in the mixed doubles at the commonwealth games in 2010, it will be difficult for her to continue this success at the Olympics but we will all be behind her!

Andrew Baggaley

Baggaley is not ranked too far behind Drinkhall will be key in the team event. If Baggaley can produce performances like he produced in the Hungarian Open in January where he deservedly made it to the last 16 in a tournament filled with the world’s best, team GB will have a great chance.

These types of victories are exactly what team GB need so we hope Pitchford can produce some brilliance in London and help bring home a medal.
