ITTF- Qatar Open Final Day

11th February 2012, ITTF World Tour

In an exciting Men’s draw it came down to the two top Chinese seeds Wang Hao and Xu Xin. Back at the excel arena in November Wang Hao managed to come out the better of the two so Xu Xin was looking to get one back. Always very close the match went to the full 7 sets. With Wang Hao 9-8 up in the final set Xu Xin called a timeout. He then levelled the match at 9-9. In an extremely tense end to the tournament Wang Hao used his powerful forehand to take the lead 10-9 and match point. Wang Hao then put a top spin shot into the net to make it 10-10. Xu Xin then managed to come through on his own serve and went on to win the final set 12-10 and the match (11-7, 7-11, 9-11, 4-11, 12-10, 11-5, 12-10). After this very close encounter Xu Xin has now won 4 Mens tour singles titles.

In the Women’s draw, Meng Chen the exciting 18 year old from China won the women’s singles. She endured a very tough journey as she was not seeded and had to go through the two days of qualifying. The world ranked 39 played Koreas Seok Ha Jung in the final and played very efficient table tennis winning the match in four straight sets (11-8, 20-18, 11-6, 11-9).
