ITTF Pro Tour Grand Final – Saturday 26th November

In a fully filled Saturday schedule the build up to the Men’s doubles final and the Women’s singles finals was extremely exciting with action from the Women’s doubles and Men’s Singles.

The English women Joanna Parker and Kelly Sibley had a tough doubles quarter final match against the experienced Singaporean pair of Li Jiawei and Wang Yeugu. There were glimpses of the quality that the Home pairing posses by taking a set off the Singaporeans but Li and Wang proved too strong in the end and eventually won 4-1.

In the Men’s singles quarter finals Ma Long, Wang Hao, Gao Ning and Zhang Jike all progressed into the semi finals of the competition.

In the Men’s doubles final it was an all Chinese affair. Ma Lin and Zhang Jike took on Ma Long and Wang Hao. It was a thrilling match which was taken all the way to the seventh set. In the seventh set Ma and Zhang took a commanding lead at 8-5 but Ma and Wang fought back to make 9-9.
Ma and Zhang went on to take the closely contested final set 11-9. Ma Lin and Zhang Jike won 11-5, 10-12, 4-11, 14-16, 11-7, 11-8, 11-9 to be crowned the Men’s Doubles champions.

In the Women’s singles final the world number 1 Ding Ning played world number 5 Liu Shiwen. Liu started the better of the two playing some great table tennis to take the first two sets comfortably 11-5 and 11-3. Ding came back into the game in the third set leading 8-7 but Liu fought back and won the third set 11-9.

The story in the fourth set was very similar with Ding leading 9-6 but at the business end of set Liu came back once again to win the set 11-9. Liu Shiwen won 4-0 and was crowned the Women’s Singles champion.
