ADPP’s Exclusive on Team GB’s Adidas kit!

Suns Out, Bats Out! Finally the wait is over, the sun is shining in Britain and everyone is beginning to feel that summer ‘buzz’, and some are just feeling the burn. However this is not the only hot topic on everyone’s mind. Yes, the London 2012 Olympics and it is only 59 days away! In this Conor’s Column *Special*, we give our ADPP readers a complete ‘down-low’ on the Olympic kit supplied by Adidas, with the inside scoop coming right from the guys inside one of the worlds biggest sports brand!

Team GB

The teams have been picked and now there is no going back! On the 22nd of May, the six players who will compete in the London 2012 Olympics were announced. The squad consists of GB ranked No.1 Paul Drinkhall, only 22 years of age and breaking into the world top 100. He is the men’s singles player. A surprising but well deserved place was awarded to 19-year-old Liam Pitchford, who recently beat world No 9 Vladimir Samsonov. And the third of the men selected is the experienced Andrew Baggaley who has 5 common wealth medals under his belt and at only 29 years old, he is the oldest member of the team! A painful mention goes out to Darius Knight 22 who looked likely for a place but only just missed out. The women’s singles player is Joanna Parker who is GB’S No 1. Joanna is 25 and she is an English national champion. The two other women joining her are an ADPP favorite Kelly Sibley, 24, and Na Liu, 29. Congratulations to all those selected, ADPP wish you all the best.

Now for the Exclusive!

Not only is it important to pick the right squad but it is also just as important to give the GB players the best technological gear in order to give them the best possible chance of achieving their best. ADPP has been given complete access into the package that Adidas, the Official Sportswear Partner of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, will be providing our sportsmen and women.

The Facts:

• Adidas will supply over 900 British Athletes across the 26 Olympic and 20 Paralympic sports producing a total of approximately 175,000 items.
• The Creative Director picked for this project is British designer Stella Mcartney.
• The ‘sportswear’ kit is the most comprehensive range that’s ever been supplied to a national team.
• The British athletes will be kitted out with kit bag comprising performance wear, presentation suit, training wear, village wear, accessories and footwear.

The Technology

Adidas have taken into account the high-speed nature of Table Tennis. The technology behind the shirt features Adizero lightweight construction, which is 10% lighter than the existing high-performance range and allows the athletes to move with agility and react with speed. The carefully placed 3D mesh panels on the shirt, using Adidas’ ClimaCool™ technology, ensures the athlete remains cool through enhanced ventilation. This is key to feeling good whilst playing.

To reflect the fact that Table Tennis is one of the fastest ball sports in the world, Adidas have designed a shoe specifically so that GB players will be that bit quicker on their feet. All Table Tennis players will know how important it is to be able to spring back and forward from your left to your right, and so these shoes have majored in making this possible for the users, whilst remaining comfortable.

Adizero Table Tennis shoe is the lightest in class providing grip, cushioning and balance. The key features are: a grippy rubber outsole, Adiprene technology for a cushioned toe area and the inclusion of overlays for balance and stable side-to-side movement. To make the shoe as light as possible it has a ‘sprintskin’ which is a single layer synthetic that acts like a second skin while a single layer mesh decreased weight and improves breathability in the fore and mid-foot area.

ADPP and Adidas know the world will be watching British Athletes when they take the stage and Adidas have ensured that they look the best and are the best-equipped team through the combination of leading technologies, which include, TECHFIT™ PowerWEB™ and Climacool™

Good Luck to those Players, and for all you Table Tennis lovers, get your tables outside in this sunshine and get playing. Conor, ADPP
